Pollinator Friendly Front Garden
Client:
Residential Front Garden, Gerrards Cross
The brief for this front garden was principally to add a parking space as the house only had one parking space and is located on a busy road with limited on-road parking options. There was also a gravelled bank along the frontage which had got over-grown and untidy so this needed improving.
I was keen that we retained as much garden as possible whilst adding the parking space as it would provide privacy as well as being good for the environment.
After providing several options, we settled on a layout that provided a practical second parking space but retained a lot of garden. We added new Viburnum Tinus hedging to create an evergreen, winter-flowering screen above the roadside retaining wall, as well as mature multi-stem Osmanthus Burkwoodii either side of the path and steps to provide privacy. A new Prunus Umineko tree provides spring blossom and lovely autumn colour, and pollinator-friendly perennial planting will provide colour throughout the year and will cascade over the walls to soften the hard landscaping.
The clients were delighted and said it felt like it should always have been like that!
