RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2025 - Room to Breathe Hospital Garden for the TSA

Client:

RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2025

The Room to Breathe Hospital Garden for the TSA will be unveiled at this year's RHS Chelsea Flower Show in May 2025.

Inspired by the healing power of nature, this garden provides a sanctuary within a hospital courtyard, a restorative space for parents and caregivers.

The aim is to create a space, an oasis of calm, where caregivers can escape during the stresses of hospital treatments, recharge, and be ready to face the challenges again – a 'Room to Breathe'.

The cocoon-like feature chair cradles caregivers, offering a sense of security. Splashes of burgundy amidst a white and green planting scheme symbolise resilience through adversity, with white serving as the guiding light through darker times. The soothing water feature nurtures a sense of calm and serenity, while the angled pergola evokes a sense of disorientation and a need for realignment.

This garden is incredibly close to my heart, created in honour of the Tuberous Sclerosis Association (TSA).
It’s self-funded with the aim to raise awareness for the TSA, highlighting the vital work the charity does in supporting families affected by Tuberous Sclerosis (TSC).

Inspired by my own personal experience of waiting in a hospital while my son, who has TSC, underwent brain surgery, this garden offers parents and caregivers a restorative space to recharge. My goal is to raise awareness of this rare disease and highlight the life-changing work the TSA does for families affected by TSC.

I also volunteer at Amersham Hospital, helping to rejuvenate gardens for staff and patients. My hands-on experience has shown how green spaces profoundly enhance well-being in healthcare environments, inspiring the design approach to this garden - turning a container garden in a hospital courtyard into a sanctuary for parents and caregivers— a 'Room to Breathe’.

I am proud to be collaborating on this project with Catherine Gibbon of Botanique Gardens.
